About

Meet Dr. Maren Jones

A thoughtful, experienced psychologist offering practical and compassionate support for adults navigating trauma, transition, and the demands of everyday life.

Dr. Maren Jones was drawn to helping others from an early age, beginning with volunteer work in hospital settings as a teenager and later serving in psychiatric care during college. Those early experiences led to a lasting commitment to psychology as a field that blends scientific understanding with empathy, healing, and meaningful human connection.

Her academic path included undergraduate studies at Yale and doctoral training in Clinical Psychology at UCLA, where she developed a strong foundation in evidence-based care and individualized treatment.

Depth of Clinical Experience

Early Training

Earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Clinical Psychology from UCLA, during which I completed APA approved internships at a VA Medical Center and a Child Guidance Clinic. During my training, I also provided supervised therapy to adults at the UCLA Psychology Clinic and led psycho-educational support groups for adults in a long-term weight loss program at a major HMO.

After completing my Ph.D., I completed an APA approved post-doctoral fellowship providing parent consultation and psychotherapy to children, teens and families, as well as psychological assessment.

Over the 30+ years since I became licensed, I have provided psychotherapy to adults, teens, and children in private practice settings, and performed psychological assessments of adults, teens, and children, most recently for veterans pursuing disability claims related to their mental health.

I served as the Director of Student Support at a Houston area private school for six years, where I supported the students, teachers, and staff in helping children thrive in the school environment, both individually and as a community.

Over the last 17+ years in my role as a psychologist in the Houston Police Department, I have completed pre-hire psychological evaluations of police officer applicants, provided crisis response services to officers involved in traumatic or critical incidents, and taught at the Police Academy on such topics as “Understanding and Managing Bias in Policing” and Wellness. However, the bulk of my time has been spent providing individual therapy to current and retired officers and employees, their spouses, and children from ages 5 to 26, and providing couples counseling.  Many of our officers are also military veterans, giving me experience with this population as well.

In the early days of COVID, we began to use online therapy, initially to minimize in-person contact.  We learned that online therapy made attending sessions much more feasible for busy individuals and people who did not work or live close to our office. In my current private practice, I offer online therapy only, which allows me to offer more appointment times and allows clients more options for fitting their sessions into their busy lives.
